Robot Dance Party!

Robot Dance Party! is an art installation inspired by St. Jude patient Luigi that was featured in the lobby of the Tamer-Rashid Building located on the campus of ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hosptial® in Memphis, TN.

I had the opportunity to design, create and install this art installation.

Robot Dance Party! consists of three robot sculptures, each standing at approximately 4’ tall, constructed from wood, metal, paper and paint. Each robot is recreating dance moves from Luigi that are shown in photography within the display. Small details found in paper accents within each robot and a handmade, paper cowboy hat speak to Luigi’s love of country music, dancing and crafting robot costumes from paper. A shower of paper springs and sprockets rain down on the display and can be found at the feet of the robots, along with paper lanterns and confetti. Luigi’s story and pictures of him and his family are placed at the edge of the display to give context to viewers who engage with the installation.
