Unicorn Fantasy
Unicorn Fantasy is an art installation inspired by St. Jude patient Charlotte that was featured in the lobby of the Tamer-Rashid Building located on the campus of ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hosptial® in Memphis, TN.
I had the opportunity to design, create and install this art installation.
Unicorn Fantasy consists of a large unicorn sculpture standing nearly 7’ tall that is constructed from wood, metal, fabric and paint. Rainbow color blocks adorn the figure’s feet giving a nod to a pair of Charlotte’s tights that can be seen in accompanying pictures within the display. Small details found in tone on tone patterns and pops of golden yellow bring to life Charlotte’s personality within the installation and speak to her love of unicorns and art. Paper lanterns and triangles are scattered at the unicorn’s feet giving a dreamy feeling of billowy clouds and abstract foliage. Charlotte’s story and pictures of her and her sisters are placed at the edge of the display to give context to viewers who engage with the installation.
